H&D adds Plasma Shape Cutting Technology
This May, Hogg and Davis added its newest piece of fabrication equipment to the plant. A new Plasma Shape Cutting machine to replace its older ESAB oxyfuel shape cutter.
The gantry is made by Sector Technologies and has a effective cutting area of 14'X12'. Attached to the machine is an Hypertherm HT 2000 Plasma torch with a Hyperthern Arcwriter. This allows us to cut at SEVEN times the speed of oxyfuel with virtually no dross (slag). The plasma process cuts plate 3 inches under water to reduce emissions and noise levels.
With this plasma torch, we have the capabilities not only to cut mild steel, but aluminum, stainless steel, and bronze. Also equipped with a Burny 10 processor, with a "touch screen"interface, windows based environment.
With our older machine, we were held to the capabilites of the machine, whereas shapes either had to be traqced with an optical eye or programmed by hand. The Burny 10 allow for the loading of any dwg. or dxf. file from CAD. This greatly reduces the programming time as well as the time needed to reprogram a part.
The Burny 10 is also networked with the office computers to reduce the amount of paperwork and "travel time" to and from the machine.
